School of Woodworking
Discover the Art of Hand Tool Woodworking
The School of Woodworking
At the
Homestead Heritage Craft Village
, we originally designed our woodworking facility as a furniture
making workshop for our own craftsmen and as a facility to train future
generations of furniture makers. Though we continue to build custom-made
pieces and develop new designs in furniture there, our master craftsmen
now work in their own workshops located near to their homes. This
has enabled us to dedicate our furniture workshop to a year-round
facility for teaching visiting students
and woodworking enthusiasts from all areas of the country. Our facilty
includes two teaching areas in which we can accomodate a total of
twenty-four students.
One area is designed and equipped for hand-tool woodworking
and the other is a multi-purpose classroom where we teach machine
and hand woodworking as well as wood turning. Our student work stations
are complete with a joiner's workbench and a comprehensive hand tool
kit for each student.
The School of Woodworking, situated in the craft village of
Homestead Heritage, is surrounded by 500 acres of mixed woodlands
and arable farmland cultivated by traditional self-sufficient farming
and gardening methods.
