Our Teachers
Frank StrazzaMany woodworking enthusiasts know Frank for his determination to undertake difficult and often complex furniture projects. He began woodworking in 1988 and served his apprenticeship with our Heritage Furniture Makers. Having made hundreds of furniture pieces ranging from inlaid conference tables to mesquite tallboys and Windsor chairs, Frank teaches from his wide experience in all areas of fine furniture making. His reputation as a fine craftsman increased when he entered two of his pieces in the Texas Furniture Makers Show held at Kerrville, Texas. His cherry Windsor chair received second place and his mesquite chest of drawers took the "Best of Show". |
Mark Borman
Mark Borman began working in wood in his early teen years and quickly developed a deep understanding of traditional hand woodworking methods here at the school's furniture making workshops. In addition to his full-time vocation producing custom commissions at his home workshop and teaching here at the Homestead Heritage woodworking school, he regularly holds hands-on workshops for parents and children here in our community at Homestead Heritage. |
Stan Beckworth
Stan Beckworth began woodworking in 1983. His wide experience in woodworking enables him to teach as a practicing master craftsman. Stan has taught woodworking since 1988 and began teaching at the School of Woodworking in the Homestead Heritage Craft Village in 1995. Presently, he teaches furniture restoration and furniture finishing here at the Center. |
Kevin Durkin
Kevin Durkin first discovered the craft of timber framing when he dismantled a historic nineteenth-century barn over thirty years ago. Since then he has worked with wood as a furniture maker and timber-frame home designer and builder. He now works with Heritage Restorations, where he has overseen the dismantling and restoration of over 100 historic timber-frame buildings, including barns, mills, houses, log cabins and outbuildings. |
Joe Slack has worked in carpentry and woodworking for over 30 years and teaches general carpentry and furniture making here at the School of Woodworking. As a lifetime guitarist he has played as a professional musician and continues to play the guitar. Having also taught guitar lessons through the years, he enjoys sharing his knowledge of the guitar with other guitar enthusiasts. Joe teaches the fundamentals of guitar making through seminars and workshops here at the woodworking school. His goal is to help each student make a good quality playing instrument and to learn enough to continue guitar making at home. |
